About Me

When I was a toddler, I had an unnatural disregard for the fear of heights. I would climb all sorts of things. I climbed up a twenty-foot ladder, I dangled my feet over the edge of a thirty-foot balcony, I climbed trees and I knew multiple ways of getting onto my church’s various roof-tops.

One time, my dad thought someone had broken into our house because he heard a raucous from the kitchen. He grabbed a bat and walked carefully toward the kitchen, but instead of finding a burglar, he found his three-year-old son banging on pots and pans that were kept above the refrigerator.

Earlier that night, I hopped out of my crib, strolled down the hallway and climbed up several drawers to get onto the counter. From the counter, I pulled myself up onto the refrigerator far enough to reach the pots and pans that were kept there. I’m not sure the cause, but I went to great lengths to make some noise in the middle of the night.

Today, I am pretty much the same way. I study journalism and political science because I am concerned for the underrepresented, the outcast and the poor. I follow Jesus in his concern for the marginalized of society. I plan on graduating from law school so that, through law, I can impact a system that so often prejudices the poor. And I plan on making a lot of noise.

I am not afraid to leave my comfort zone and take risks in order to create a raucous when injustice occurs. In fact, I think it is my calling to climb up some political ladders and bang some pots and pans. In general, I think our political leaders need to do less manipulating and more listening. This is why I have the intention of making a lot of noise in my future career as a writer, lawmaker and politician.
As your Director of Student Relations, I will never tell a student that his or her idea will just never happen because it will rock the boat too hard. I intend on rocking the boat subtly and with great ferocity, at times. If the student body has ideas that seem too big for us, here at Point Loma, I will represent those ideas, even in the face of opposition.
